The vets and nurses here at Maven Vets opened their doors last week to visitors they were not expecting. A small pet’s carry cage full of leaves was left on the doorstep. On closer inspection there was a handwritten note attached to the cage which turned out to contain over 200 stick insects – all abandoned as needing to be re-homed!
Since then the team at Maven have been looking after their visitors whilst also working to re-home them. The stick insects have a habit of playing dead, looking especially like twigs! However, they also quickly spring back to life and are full of antics that keep everyone entertained. Vet Michael Morrice said, ‘They are certainly an unusual pet for us to be presented with but we’re hopeful we can find good homes for them all. I’ve even taken a couple home myself much to the delight of my 3 children though I’m not sure my wife is 100% thrilled!’
