Insurance brings peace of mind that things important to you such as your house, home or health are protected should anything happen. This is also true of pet insurance.

Pet Insurance can be a significant help when your pet is injured or unwell, relieving the financial worry often associated with treating unexpected conditions.

At Maven Vets we strongly recommend insurance for your pet.

You can request an appointment to see our vet team and we can activate and enhanced 4 weeks free insurance instantly while you consider the options available for ongoing cover.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need to consider when insuring my pet?

There are several important factors to consider in choosing pet insurance:

Is there a time limit on the policy?

  • Some policies have a specified period of cover meaning if your pet falls ill, they will only be covered for the condition for a certain time.

Is there a financial limit on the policy?

  • Some policies have a financial limit per condition or in total of what they will pay out for your pet, either annually or lifetime.

Will everything be covered in my policy?

  • Cover varies between providers and you will need to discuss with your chosen provider what is covered and what is excluded. In general, if your pet has been seen for a condition prior to taking out insurance, this may be classed as pre-existing and not be covered.

What Happens if I change Insurance Provider?

  • Please ensure you check carefully with your new provider what your pet will be covered for before making any changes to your policy. Switching policies is treated as starting a new policy, which means any pre-existing conditions may no longer be covered. This can include any conditions that have been previously claimed for under your current policy.

My pet is insured: How do I make a claim?

Making an insurance claim for treatment at Maven is simple.

  • Please contact your insurance company to let them know you wish to make a claim. They will advise you on the specific requirements for submitting your claim, which may vary. This could include:
    • Emailing Maven a link to provide the necessary information.
    • Submitting your invoice directly to your insurance provider.
    • Completing a claim form, which may require input from both you and the veterinary practice.
    • Submitting an online claim following a request with our Client Care Team.
  • If you need to provide a claim form, please complete the client section of the form and hand it to our Client Care Team. We will complete the veterinary section and submit it to your insurance company.
  • You do not need to produce receipts for treatment you pet has received as we will produce this from our records.
  • Please note, claims for products purchased online, or at other veterinary businesses – such as Vets Now Emergency Care, please contact your insurance provider to advise you on how to claim for these fees.
  • Once all required information has been provided, we aim to submit claims within 7–21 days.
  • Once processed, your insurance provider will contact you with the outcome of the claim and details of what is being paid to you.

Please note all insurance policies have an excess amount which will not be refunded.

Can I claim directly from my insurance company at Maven Vets?

At Maven Vets, we can process direct insurance claims for certain larger treatments over £500, with selected insurance providers.

Eligibility can only be confirmed after reviewing your pet’s medical history and insurance cover, or once pre-authorisation has been approved.

To arrange a direct claim:

  • Speak to your vet during your appointment that you would like to set up a direct claim.
  • Contact your insurer to give permission for us to speak with them directly to confirm your pet’s cover.
  • The vet will review your pet’s history and policy cover and will authorise the direct claim as appropriate. We will contact you if we are unable to proceed with a direct claim.
  • Direct claims arranged with us apply only to treatment provided by Maven Veterinary Care. Treatment carried out by our emergency provider, Vets Now Emergency, must be paid for directly or claimed separately through their own insurance process.
  • We charge an administration fee of £32.50 to process direct claims.
  • Pay a £200 deposit - covers the admin fee(non-claimable) and any fees deducted as per your policy wording, such as excess or percentage co-payment
    • Please note: any exclusions or treatment not covered by your policy will be payable at the time of treatment.
  • Sign a direct claim agreement form.
  • Once treatment has been completed, we aim to submit claims within 7–21 days.
  • Once processed, your insurance provider will contact you with the outcome of the claim and details of what is being paid to us.
  • Once we have received payment from your insurance provider, we will contact you directly if there is a refund due to you or an outstanding balance to pay.
  • If any part of your pet's treatment is rejected by your insurance company the outstanding balance is payable by you.

Do Maven Vets have their own pet insurance I can take out?

No, Maven Vets don't run their own insurance for pets. However, we recommend Pet Plan Insurance.

Maven Vets do run a plan to spread payments for preventative treatments not covered by insurance such as vaccinations and flea and worm control. This is through our Pet Health for Life. By joining our plan and taking out pet insurance you pet is covered for all healthcare needs.
