Neutering Your Dogs
Male Dog Neutering
Male dog neutering, or castration, involves the removal of both testicles. This procedure can help reduce aggression and improve your dog's overall behaviour.
What is puppy castration?
Puppy castration is a straightforward surgery where both testicles are removed. The procedure typically lasts about 30 minutes.
At what age can my puppy be neutered?
Puppies can be neutered from six months of age. However, for larger breeds, it may be advisable to wait until they have fully matured, which can take up to two years.
What is the recovery period for male dogs?
After neutering, your dog will need to rest at home for a few days. Most dogs resume their normal activities within 10 days.
What are the benefits of castrating my dog?
- revents unwanted litters
- Reduces the risk of testicular cancer and prostate issues
- Minimises hypersexual behaviours like mounting and scent marking
- Lowers aggression towards other male dogs

Female Dog Spaying
Spaying involves the removal of a female dog’s ovaries, and sometimes the uterus, eliminating their ability to breed. This procedure also reduces the risk of various health issues.
What is puppy spaying?
Spaying is the surgical removal of a female dog’s ovaries, with or without the uterus.
What is the recovery time for female dogs?
Recovery from spaying generally takes around two weeks. Since the surgery is more complex than castration, your dog will need rest and post-operative care. We provide detailed aftercare instructions and pain relief.
What are the benefits of spaying my dog?
- Prevents unwanted pregnancies and phantom pregnancies
- Reduces the risk of uterine infections
- Lowers the likelihood of mammary tumours developing

Cat Neutering
Cats reach sexual maturity quickly, and neutering is essential to prevent unwanted litters and health issues. In line with RSPCA and Cats Protection guidelines, we recommend neutering both male and female cats at around four months old.
Spaying female cats involves the removal of the ovaries and uterus, while male cat castration involves the removal of the testicles.
Why should I neuter my cat?
- Reduces the risk of unwanted litters
- Lowers the chance of contracting Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) and Feline Leukaemia Virus (FeLV)
- Prevents testicular tumours and prostate problems
- Reduces roaming and territorial behaviours
- Minimises fighting and spraying
What is kitten spaying?
Kitten spaying is the surgical removal of a female cat’s ovaries and uterus.

Rabbit Neutering
Rabbits can be neutered from four months of age. For males, this involves the removal of the testicles, while female rabbits undergo spaying to remove the uterus and ovaries.
Since rabbits are social animals, neutering can promote bonding and improve their overall well-being.
Why should I neuter my rabbit?
- Promotes bonding with other rabbits
- Prevents unwanted pregnancies
- Assists in litter training
- Reduces aggressive behaviours, particularly in males
