Most pet owners are very aware of the hidden dangers to our pets which we have in our homes. Several foods such as chocolate and onions can be very poisonous to dogs and other household items such as lilies and anti- freeze can cause severe problems in cats.

With the advantage of new technologies, medications, owner dedication and diets our pets are living longer. The average age for a well loved cat is currently around 15-17years. Given this fact, it will come as no surprise that some cats are living for up to 20years. I would like to introduce you to Kia, a domestic short haired golden oldie, who has been well loved and cared for by her human family. Kia turned 22years old on her last birthday in March and continues to surprise us with her feisty nature and resilience.

It's time again for the annual Morden Family Funday which this year is on Sunday 16th July. The Funday is a fabulous day out for all the family, with stalls, games, competitions, a dog show and so much more!

The vets and nurses here at Maven Vets opened their doors last week to visitors they were not expecting. A small pet’s carry cage full of leaves was left on the doorstep. On closer inspection there was a handwritten note attached to the cage which turned out to contain over 200 stick insects – all abandoned as needing to be re-homed!

For learning the hard way that chocolate isn’t good for you

Ozzy is a very handsome cat who is nearly 13 years old. He is still very active and always happy to see us. You would not think looking at him that he has been having chemotherapy for the last few months! He is the best patient and sits very calmly whilst we give his injections; enjoying his chin tickle as we go.

Well, the glamorous event of the awards ceremony for the Pet Plan Veterinary Awards 2017 came and went last week and we thoroughly enjoyed them!

The Petplan Veterinary Awards are a much-anticipated event in the veterinary calendar. Each year pet owners from throughout the UK are invited to nominate individuals or practices they believe are worthy of winning one of the prestigious categories. The categories are:

Lolly had a very upsetting start to life. She came to see us only two days after being with her new family as she wasn’t feeling well. She had diarrhoea, had vomited several times and was not eating and playful like a normal puppy should be. As puppies are small they can become dehydrated very quickly which means even a small amount of diarrhoea or vomiting can be very severe for them. Lolly’s new owners had done the right thing to bring her straight down to us.
